Anaïs (MPS IVA)

Our 8-year-old daughter Anaïs has Morquio syndrome. Each additional year spent at her side makes us proud as parents. She is wise and mature beyond her years, with strengths like perseverance, determination, and living each day fully without fear. But as time passes, she increasingly loses her ability to walk. She is in great pain, with a lot of weakness in the lower limbs. As walking becomes more and more difficult the specialists recommend an electric vehicle to conserve her energy and hips.

From our research we found that a Segway Ninebot was used by other MPS children in the USA. It’s expensive, so we were lucky enough to benefit from the “Financial Assistance Program” to buy one.

Now Anaïs has newfound freedom and mobility. With her wheelchair and crutches, outdoor terrain was difficult. Now she can easily explore and play while camping and on family outings. She moves freely all summer, even on vacation. Her friends have also bought electric scooters so they can ride together. This vehicle has been life-changing, allowing Anaïs to be an active, independent child. We’re so thankful to the Canadian MPS Society for their financial help in providing this gift of mobility.
